Cache Entanglement - 3/31/15

Today's Texas puzzle landed in my inbox recently, and I was immediately intrigued by the description which references the new field of "geocache physics."  Have some fun sorting out:

Cache Entanglement

A little bonus entertainment for you ... I had an e-mail that geocachers might enjoy trying the LA Times crossword puzzle from March 8 ... you can access it here to solve it online or print yourself a copy.  You'll have to watch an ad, then scroll down through the list to get to the March 8 puzzle, which is called "Hide and Seek."

Today's humorous Rhode Island cache poses the hypothesis that some purported Bigfoot sightings are actually just geocachers in the woods.  Plausible?  Decide for yourself:

Virtual Hunt - 3/24/15

One of my friends recently returned from vacation in Europe and she told me about taking a photo of a particularly interesting thing they happened to be passing by.  Only later did she discover that there was a virtual cache there, and she was able to answer the question and submit her picture to claim the find.  Puzzles can take us far from home without ever leaving our desk chairs.  Today's puzzle from Japan involves a:

When will it be spring? - 3/21/15

It's been a long winter here, and now that it's officially spring I am ready for some warmth and sunshine.  As much as I am not a fan of winter, I have to admit that I was incredibly impressed with the gorgeous photography in this California puzzle about:

Minesweeper - 3/20/15

Today's Pennsylvania puzzle is one I had fun testing pre-publication.  It is part of a geo-art "pi" series that was put out in honor of pi day.  (I'd really like to see a statistic of how many puzzle caches published this past weekend ... it must be an all-time high!)  I love how the description references the game of Minesweeper as an addictive pastime for "computer geeks and time wasters."  I'd have to plead guilty as charged on both counts.  If you've got a little spare time, have some fun with:

The Trip - 3/19/15

Today's California puzzle was suggested to me recently, and I figured this would be a good time to feature it, as I have been really itching to get away recently.  My friends have been regaling me with tales of their recent and upcoming trips to fun (and warm) destinations and I've been feeling quite envious.  I guess even though I'm stuck at home there's always one way I can get away somewhere else:

English is a funny language - 3/18/15

I recently had a conversation with my son about the past tense of the word "shake."  He commented that if the past tense of "shake" is "shook"  then the past tense of "bake" should be "book" and "make" should be "mook".  I could only reply that English is indeed a funny language.  Have some fun with today's Nevada puzzle, which involves another aspect of this same issue:

Beware the Ides of March - 3/16/15

I hope everyone got their Pi Day souvenirs this weekend ... I ended up getting a couple different pi-related puzzles in addition to attending a Pi Day event.  One of the puzzles I was advised to get to on showshoes ... something I had never tried before.  Lucky I had a friend that let me use hers.
Now that Pi Day is behind us we can focus on some other days ... seeing that yesterday was the Ides of March, it seems like today is a good day to feature this Washington puzzle, which was recommended to me recently:

Tomorrow we'll celebrate St. Patrick's Day in Illinois.

Happy Pi Day! - 3/14/15

I hope you'll indulge me for sharing one of my own central New York puzzles today, because it is such a good fit for the day.  This is the long awaited, extra special Pi Day, where not just the month and day get into the act, but the year as well.  Geocaching.com is even getting into the spirit, offering official digital souvenirs to everyone who attends an event or logs a "mystery" cache today.  However you celebrate, let me take you the opportunity to wish you a very:

Friday the 13th - 3/13/15

Today's Minnesota puzzle is one that I looked at some time ago, thinking I might share it on the Friday following Thanksgiving, but when I didn't get through it in time, I set it aside and forgot about it.  When it recently landed in my inbox I was determined to figure out what it was all about.  I don't want to risk forgetting about it again if I try to wait until November, so I figure a Friday the 13th is as good a day as any to feature a puzzle about:

Tomorrow we'll celebrate Pi Day in central New York.

All that glitters is gold - 3/11/15

Find number 1000 is known as the "golden" one for geocachers, and the tribute caches that we put out for each other in honor of that milestone are one of my favorite kinds of finds.  Today's New York puzzle is:

Yellow Snow? - 3/10/15

I recently opened the back door of my car and was surprised to see what looked like a decent quantity of yellow-ish snow on the floor behind the passenger seat.  You can guess what flashed through my mind ... but then I spotted an exploded Mountain Dew can over to the left.  I guess you can tell I am still a southerner at heart, not realizing what could happen with these crazy cold temperatures we've been having lately.  Anyway, as I often do, I wondered if I could find a puzzle about yellow snow.  Turns out there are several traditionals and challenge caches with that theme, but as far as a puzzle the best I could do was this one from Minnesota (where they certainly know a thing or two about the cold):

What time is it? - 3/9/15

I hope everyone remembered to set their clocks ahead yesterday ... otherwise you'll be running behind for everything today.  While I hate losing that hour, I love having that extra light in the evenings.  If it were up to me I would just keep daylight savings time year-round.  It seems to take me a while to get around to all of our clocks, so I'm sure I'll be asking myself repeatedly today, "Is that really what time it is?" Meanwhile today's Oregon puzzle asks:

To Boldly Go - 3/7/15

Today's puzzle is part of a fun new Geo Art series.  The subject of this particular one brought back memories of the first summer my husband and I spent together after we were married.  I thought he was going to have a heart attack when "To be Continued" flashed on the screen and we had to wait until fall to find out what would happen.  If I ever get to the right part of Michigan, I'll be sure:

Have you got a clue? - 3/3/15

At this point it's getting hard to believe that winter is ever going to be over around here.  At least there's lots of time to do puzzles, and play games ... or even both at the same time.  Today's Minnesota puzzle is set on a warmer day, but the idea is the same ... when you're stuck indoors, it's fun to get a:
