Snow Day Fun - 3/31/17

A couple weeks ago I unexpectedly had two days off of work due to the big snowstorm that came through.  As a kid a "snow day" meant a chance to play outside sledding and making a snowman.  Now it just means shoveling.  But at least I had plenty of time on my hands to test out this puzzle that landed in my inbox that afternoon.  Try your luck with these:

Compound Words (My Little Briones #4)

Tomorrow we'll celebrate April Fool's Day.

We Three Kings - 3/30/17

Having shared two Kings from Michigan with you already this week, I figured I'd might as well go for a third:

The Suicide King - 3/29/17

Did you ever notice that the King of Hearts looks like he's sticking his sword in his head?  I expect that's why the CO of today's Michigan puzzle named this puzzle:

ASCII Art Kings: Self-Destruction

Tomorrow, one more King.

King Me! - 3/28/17

When I stumbled across this series of puzzles in Michigan I remembered looking at them years ago.  Let's start with:

Newman Zone - 3/24/17

I've had great fun over the last week or so doing an online puzzle hunt with some fellow geocache puzzlers.  I know we were all inspired with lots of new things we could use in creating our own puzzles  While my brain recovers a bit I'm relaxing my usual "tough Friday" puzzle standards and offering a fun little alternative in the form of the Illinois version of a California puzzle I featured way back in 2013.  If you're expecting something about Seinfeld or salad dressing you're going to be surprised when you check out the:

A "Cap"ital Cache - 3/22/17

Today's puzzle takes us to Maryland.  I'm on my spring break this week (not that you'd know it looking out the window at the remnants of what "Stella" left behind last week) but I don't have any big travel plans. After all, I can stay right at home and visit:

Smithish - 3/18/17

Today's puzzle takes us to Minnesota.  I know people who are Danish, English, and Finnish.  I could eat catfish, horseradish or even licorice if I found myself feeling peckish.  It's really quite freakish ... I'd better finish with all this gibberish.  Today's puzzle is:

Happy St. Patrick's Day! - 3/17/17

It seems like everyone is going green for St. Patrick's Day today.   Even Krispy Kreme is getting into the act:

I looked high and low for a suitable puzzle - not too hard, not too ... soft(?) ... you get the idea.  I even poked around a few puzzles in Ireland (more on that next week).  I eventually chose this one in California, after coming to the conclusion that:

Poems #3 - 3/13/17

With St. Patrick's Day falling at the end of the week, I thought today's little poem from California might be appropriate:

Poems: Awful Limericks

P.S.  With a quick search I also found limerick-based puzzles written in German and Czech, but figured this is one case where we'd definitely expect to lose something in translation.  ;)

Tomorrow, a puzzle for Pi Day.

Time to Pay the Piper - 3/8/17

As the old saying goes, if you want to dance, you've got to pay the piper.  The CO of today's recent California puzzle certainly found this out.  He enjoyed the dance:

Beale Street Blues Boy - 3/6/17

I missed today's California puzzle when it published, but was glad I came across it the other day.  It explains the origin of B.B. King's nickname.  I once shared the stage with the legendary jazzman back in Memphis ... well, OK, not like that.  But he was present to receive an honorary degree at my college graduation.  I spent four years there in Memphis but that was my closest brush with any of the famous:

500 What? - 3/5/17

Last weekend saw the running of the Daytona 500, the first race of the Nascar season and the annual competition for the Winston, Nextel, Sprint,  Monster Energy Cup.  I don't really follow the sport, but since I grew up at the sight of a popular track in Bristol, TN, I have had a lot of exposure to it.  It's interesting how much variation there is from track to track, and race to race. The major race there every spring is called the "Food City 500." The track in Bristol is only a little over a half a mile around.  To complete 500 miles there you'd have to go around something like 938 times, so the "500" means "500 laps."   How many laps do you think there are in the Daytona 500?  Today's Florida puzzle asks the same question:

Daytona Beach, FL: Sunshine State Geoart #18

Geocaching Reality Show? - 3/4/17

This new Rhode Island puzzle caught my eye because it sounded like part of a new geocaching reality show ... the goal is:

Don't Get Eliminated!

Tomorrow we'll be in Florida.

In an unrelated news flash ... a little bird rodent tells me that "The Rat" is giving away free kindle downloads of one of his Cliff Knowles books this weekend.  If you're interested, just click on the link for details how to get your Fatal Dose.

Many Hands ... 3/3/17

They say that good things come in threes, so since it's "3/3" (no matter how you like to write your months and days) I have a trifecta of puzzles for you today, from California, Oregon, and Spain.
They (whoever "they" are) also say that many hands make light work.  Such can certainly be the case in geocaching.  Whether it's creating or solving puzzles, or placing or finding caches, things can go much faster (and be much more fun) when working with friends.  Earlier this year I worked on a puzzle that involved collaboration.  I'm glad I didn't feature it here right away, because now I can share with you the rest of the story.  It turns out that the original puzzle inspired a couple of other cachers to create their own versions.  The CO was not only happy to share the idea, but even helped one of them with the implementation.  Now that's:

Collaboration       Team Effort        Colaboracion

Cachbefound - 3/1/17

I love it when CO's find clever ways to honor other cachers with their puzzles.  Since puzzles by both the CO and the honoree of today's puzzle have been featured here regularly (and I had the pleasure of meeting both of them on my 2015 visit to California) I knew I'd have to share with you this puzzle in honor of:
