How many steps?! - 10/19/12

Back in February of 2011, I featured a 45-step puzzle cache that I enjoyed.  It is one of three mentioned as inspiration for today's New York puzzle.  But the CO of this puzzle wasn't happy with 45 steps.  Check out:
