Seeing Double - 10/3/16

Today's pair of Rhode Island puzzles caught my attention when they appeared right next to each other on the list of new certitude puzzles.  That can't have been a coincidence.  I wonder if they were inspired by a certain TV ad I've been chuckling over recently ...
