Jigsaw Sudoku - 5/31/17

Today's puzzle takes us to California.  Some of the most popular puzzle types are jigsaw puzzles and sudoku puzzles.  So why not a puzzle that combines both?  For an even bigger challenge (at least for me) the CO could have made us put together the pieces ourselves in this:

A Strange Diet - 5/30/17

Today's puzzle takes us to Colorado.  Now, I know there are some pretty bizarre diets out there, but no matter how successful it claimed to be I don't think I would ever try a:

Calling all Junior Sleuths - 5/28/17

Today's Australian puzzle is part of  a "Geocache Puzzle series for Junior Sleuths."  I know I first got interested in mysteries and puzzles as a kid, and this puzzle could be a fun one to try out with any junior sleuths in your life:

Which Quincy? - 5/27/17

The title of today's Maryland puzzle caught my eye, and I speculated about the theme before checking it out.  Would the "Quincy" in question be Jack Klugman's  intrepid medical examiner, Jason's loveable iguana, or something else?  Find out for yourself in:

Gödel, Escher, Bach - 5/26/17

I know that I first looked at today's Maryland puzzle several years ago, but  I can't remember if I stumbled across it due to my interest in all things Escher, or whether someone recommended it to me.  I would be willing to bet it was a recommendation, as I thoroughly enjoyed sorting it out earlier this week.  I may even have to get myself a copy of:

Minnesota Bound - 5/24/17

I'll be making a quick visit to the Twin Cities soon, and have been having a blast going back through all the puzzles I've done there and creating a list of potential targets I'd like to attempt to find.  The list is way longer than I'll have time for, but spotted an event that's taking place so if I'm lucky I might even be able to meet a CO or two while I'm there.  In the process of revisiting those great puzzles I came across several that I had been meaning to go back to, but had forgotten about, including this one:

Sudokube - 5/23/17

When I saw today's puzzle I knew I'd want to feature it.  Not only have I never featured a puzzle from Indonesia before, but I liked the puzzle set up as well.  If I had done one like it before, it's been a long time.  Sharpen your pencils and have some fun with:

Can You Follow Directions? - 5/21/17

Today's puzzle takes us to Delaware.  I've read several articles recently that indicate that the use of GPS's is actually hurting our sense of direction and lessening our ability to navigate anywhere without them.  What do you think?  Obviously geocachers rely on our GPS's a lot:

Just say Moo - 5/18/17

After a long day yesterday it was great fun to see this puzzle from Great-Britain that had landed in my in-box.  If you've been following this blog for a while, you'll remember that I have a soft spot in my heart for cows. My Christmas present a couple years back was a not-quite life-sized stuffed one.
While I have other cow-related things (including a pair of slippers with cow-heads on them and a clock given me by a professor who's a dairy specialist in Cornell's Ag school) that giant stuffed one is definitely my:

P.S. be sure you have the sound turned up.  Moo.

Pizza Party - 5/16/17

Today's puzzle takes us to Texas.  When both my kids are home it's a pretty good bet we'll be ordering pizza at some point.  It's one of the few take-out things we do, since we can all get ours just the way we like it.  Over the years each of us has had different requirements regarding sauce/no sauce/BBQ sauce, some meat/lots of meat/no meat, cheese-stuffed/cheese/extra cheese/no cheese, etc.  Since we can order online I often just pull up the last order and go from there.  My daughter was home recently and agreed to repeat her previous order of no cheese, pinapple & green peppers with BBQ sauce, except this time she didn't want any green peppers, and she didn't want the BBQ sauce.  I dutifully placed the order and returned home with a pizza that was just pineapple on a bare crust.  It turns out when you delete the BBQ sauce option you have to manually add back in the tomato sauce option ... which had never even crossed my mind.  It's a good thing they were on sale for half-price ... I ordered another one so we could commence with the:

Fade to Black - 5/12/17

Today's California puzzle is one I enjoyed working on as a tester for the CO.  Since its publication almost coincided with my last day of classes this week, I thought it would be a perfect one to share with you today.  After all, since all I have left is giving exams and getting grades turned in, this academic year is about ready to:

Too many notes? - 5/7/17

Today's puzzle takes us to California and was chosen in honor of a performance I'm participating in today.  We'll be doing Mozart's last complete mass, Mass in C major, K. 337 "Solemnis."  While I can't agree with Emperor Joseph's complaint that there are "too many notes," I do wish that there were slightly fewer high "G"s in my own part.  See if you can solve the mystery of:

Seis de Mayo - 5/6/17

Today's puzzle takes us to Canada's Ontario province.  I heard from someone yesterday who was surprised that I hadn't featured a puzzle with a Cinco de Mayo theme, as I have several times in the past.  Since I always aim to please here at GPOTD, I decided not to wait a whole year before rectifying that.  Even though it's a day late:

Far, Far, Away 5/4/17

Today's puzzle takes us to Australia.  I was recently talking with a colleague who was bemoaning the fact that some of her students had told her they skipped class one day last month due to it being 4/20.  Upon my blank stare she explained the meaning and I told her that my thing was more:

Baseball is Back - 5/3/17

Today's puzzle takes us to Michigan.  Sometime when I wasn't looking baseball season started up again.  The teams play so many games that things can change a lot from the beginning of the season to the end.  Teams that start out hot can trail badly by the all-star break, and a player who starts off with a bang could get in a slump and quickly find himself back in:
