Today's highly recommended Massachusetts puzzle landed in my in-box a while back with a note from the sender that they "thought" it could be solved without writing a computer program. Well, I made a real mess of it on my first few attempts, and then set it aside for a few weeks before giving it another shot. I was really pleased when it all came together and I knew I hadn't been:
