Quilters Rule! - 9/30/22

With the pandemic causing a year-long delay, it's been 3 years since my quilter's guild was able to hold their usual show.  Today's the day when we'll be getting it all ready for the big event this weekend.  In honor of the occasion I thought we could return to Idaho for:

Mr. October - 9/29/22

The post for today's Georgia puzzle was written by my helper Ol'Fogie.  I saved it for today since October and the Going Caching event are both right around the corner.  He writes:

The best side benefit of this game is making new friends around the globe. I attend the Going Caching mega event in Rome, GA every year. It is centered around puzzles and the area offers a plethora of amazing mysteries beyond those placed for the event. This year, I have developed a long-distance friendship with fellow solver, SpeedCity, as we have been working together on puzzles in anticipation of the event. Hopefully, we will get to meet in person while there, but regardless we have had a lot of productive give-and-take and it is almost always a good thing to look at stuff from different perspectives. Today's offering is one of those; it eluded me due to a miscalculation on my part, but SpeedCity set me back on the right track when she pointed out my mistake on…

It's almost the first of the month, which means I'm looking forward to the next of the monthly puzzles by the CO of today's California puzzle.  Try your luck with the September, 2022 edition:

It's getting to be the time of year where I especially enjoy featuring seasonal puzzles.  If you come across any fun ones with Fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Winter themes, please do send them along.

Today's puzzle takes us to West Virginia.  For some reason I hadn't noticed that we were getting close to having used up all of the GC codes beginning with "GC9," so seeing the first ones pop up recently with the GCA prefix caught me by surprise.  Here's one of the earliest puzzle caches to get published with that prefix.  It's:

Winter is Coming - 9/21/22

We're just about to the autumnal equinox, so there's no doubt that Winter is coming!  I hope you'll indulge me for sharing this little puzzle of mine from a few years back.  It had some recent finders and I was surprised to see I hadn't shared it with you before:

Today's puzzle takes us to Tennessee. I've spent a fair amount of time over the last week watching the coverage leading up to Queen Elizabeth's funeral today. Along with the hundreds of dignitaries and thousands of others in attendance, millions more will gather around their screens for one last chance to say:

Changing of the Seasons - 9/12/22

Today's puzzle takes us to Wisconsin, where I expect their seasons are fairly similar to ours here in upstate New York.  This weekend felt like it marked the change of seasons in a couple of ways.  My outdoor swim club closed for the season (with the last scheduled day being a rain out, unfortunately) and the Fall crocuses in front of my house popped up in bloom right on schedule. We also watched our first NFL football games, and since our Minnesota Twins seem to be fading from the pennant race (after a season that actually went much better than many predicted) we're about ready to switch sports seasons as well.  Still, I'm betting we will have at least one or two more warm days, and maybe a few good baseball games left to watch during the transition of these:

Brace for Impact - 9/6/22

Those of you who have been following the blog for a while know that I am a big fan of fellow geocacher The Rat and his Cliff Knowles mysteries.  I'm happy to report that there is a new one out, by the title of Brace for Impact.  Read more about it here.  I read it over the weekend and gave it 5 stars.  In honor of the occasion I'm re-featuring one of my favorites of his puzzles.  He has a wide variety, including some requiring decrypting some tough ciphers and lots of crosswords (including some juicy cryptics) but for this one you just have to figure out:

Just Letters - 9/4/22

Today Ol'Fogie is sending us to Wisconsin.  Here's what he has to say:

A to Z

Today's offering is best summed up by the description itself:

"We use letters every single day and probably never even think of them. I've also done many puzzle caches that letters in various ways. There have been numerous ciphers (Pigpen, Baconian, Vigenere, ROT13, etc. There have also been numerous anagram puzzles and other "word" type puzzles. I've counted letters, rearranged letters, using the letters position in the alphabet, etc. There are so many unique ways to use letters in puzzles that's it impossible to list them all here."

And so, here is another contribution that centers on using…

All a Blur - 9/4/22

This week has been so busy, it's all a blur. And in recognition of that I'm letting Ol'Fogie send us to Florida.  Here's what he has to say:

The Red Blue Blur

One of the great things about most of the puzzle cachers I know is that they are always willing to help those less adept at solving riddles, enigmas, and ciphers. This is even true when the less astute solver comes from another world and every mystery is just…
