Casino Night - 5/28/16

Today's puzzle takes us to one of the gambling capitals of the world: Las Vegas, Nevada.  I have mentioned before that low-stakes gambling is a guilty pleasure of mine, and it's one that my mother and I shared.  I particularly enjoyed several vacations with her at a casino resort in the Bahamas, where our days went something like this:  swim, sun, gamble, repeat.  It was in the Bahamas that I learned to play roulette, and it's by far my favorite table game. The other night my son's graduating class held their casino night, and I had a great time taking a turn on the other side of the table as croupier.  Spinning the wheel, calling out "no more bets," raking in the chips and paying them out in stacks was a blast.  I expect the only way it might have been even more fun would be if there had been:

Llama Art? - 5/18/16

I spend a fair amount of time quickly perusing lists of puzzles, looking for titles that catch my eye.  Today's puzzle is from a series that had me doing a mental double-take, questioning whether I was reading things correctly.  Llama Art?  Really?  And it's in South Korea?  Yes, on all counts, and here's the proof:

There were obviously a lot of puzzles to choose from, but with a tip of the hat to Sheldon Cooper I picked:

Back to the Beginning - 5/16/16

A Texas puzzle from a "Copycat" series of puzzles landed in my inbox recently.  It was inspired by a California puzzle, which itself was inspired by a New York CO's cache that is one I have actually found.  It was fun tracing the path all the way back to its beginning.  I wasn't expecting that:

Mexican Army Cipher Cache - 5/5/16

Five years ago for Cinco de Mayo I placed a cache that used the Mexican Army cipher.  Here's a little history I included:  Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "fifth of May") is a holiday held on May 5 that commemorates the unlikely victory of the Mexican army over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín. While Cinco de Mayo sees limited significance in Mexico itself, the date is observed mostly in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day (September 16), the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico. Now try your luck with today's Virginia puzzle commemorating a different piece of Mexican army history:

Remember the Alamo ~ Mexican Army Cipher Cache

Tomorrow we'll be in Arizona.

P.S.  Please forgive my inadvertent jumble of posts earlier in the week ... I lost track of what day it was and tried to make a last-minute change after the "last minute" had already gone by! (Oops.)  If you have a feeling you missed something, the two that got switched up were this one  and this one.
