A Hoot - 2/24/11

One of the logs for today's featured puzzle describes it as "a hoot," and I agree.  I almost didn't include it because it does require some local knowledge to actually make the find, but the puzzle itself is too fun to pass up.  This is another one I found as a result of a reader suggestion that I check out the Alberta area, and, published in 2003, it ranks as the oldest featured puzzle so far.  Enjoy.

Royalty? In Calgary?

Tomorrow we'll continue the international theme with a puzzle from Greece, and we'll have another Bonus Blog.

Six Flags Over Alaska - 2/5/11

Today's featured puzzle is one of a series of what the owner calls "linguistic challenges."  You might like to check out the whole group of them.  The thing that I found unique about this series is that the hint refers to a traditional cache, "Rosetta Cache" in which non-puzzle solvers can find the key to each of the linguistic puzzles.  A great idea to get more folks interested in puzzle caches.

Six Flags Over Muskeg

Tomorrow we'll go from the 49th state to "Five-O".

Oops! - 2/4/11

Today's featured puzzle is a result of a reader's suggestion that I check out puzzles in the area of Alberta, Canada.  The listing and gallery photos were good for a laugh and convinced me this one was worth a try.  The cipher itself and the way it  describes the coordinates both make this puzzle something special.  See what you think, and don't forget to check out today's Bonus Blog.

Tomorrow we'll head even farther north, to our first Alaska puzzle.

Bonus Blog #5 - 2/4/11

I never fail to be impressed by those who are able to translate Morse Code on the fly.  I can't get much beyond ... --- ... myself, so when I have a lot of Morse Code to handle in a puzzle, I rely on a Morse Code translator.  The website below will translate in either direction for you, and even let you hear what it would sound like going out over a radio.  Hope it will .... . .-.. .--. / -.-- --- ..- / --- ..- - !

Morse Code Translator

Next week another time-saving tool.
