Hide and Go Cache - 2/28/18

What better idea for some winter fun than a "Hide and Go Cache" event, like they have up in Canada's British Columbia province.  This wasn't one of the 286(!) official caches for the event , but it's got some pretty:

Columbus Bound? - 2/26/18

It looks like I finally make it to Columbus later this spring.  That area was one of the first out-of-town areas I explored, and I have a huge pile of caches I'd like to find.  Somehow I expect I'll find myself working on even more, though, before I get there.  I'm warning you in advance that for some reason certitude isn't updating for either correct or incorrect answers, but I promise you that:

Today's puzzle from California brought back some fun memories for me.  But I won't spoil anything by talking about it; I'll just point you to it:

Stranger and Stranger - 2/23/18

Today's puzzle takes us to Arkansas.  I think the only thing stranger than having the temperature up in the 60's here the last 2 days was that it was snowing today.  Talk about:

Catching Up with Friends - 2/20/18

Within the last week I've had the opportunity to catch up with two of my caching friends that I don't get to see very often.  I attended this event with my friend momd (if you click on the link you'll see why it was one I was willing to drive an hour to attend), and drove our mutual friend spooko13 all over Ithaca so he could pick up a bunch of puzzle caches since the last time he'd driven the 2 hours down from Rochester.  In honor of my friends, today I'm featuring a central New York puzzle created by one of them for the other:

Downside Up in Korea - 2/18/18

One thing you can count on at the Olympics is that your expectations are often turned upside down.  If you missed the look on the Czech snowboarder's face when she won the Super-G skiing race, it was priceless. I didn't type that wrong.  She's a world-champion snowboarder who also just happens to compete on the world-cup level in skiing, and she won the race against the top alpine specialists ... on borrowed skis.  NBC was so sure all the medal contenders had come down the mountain that they had declared an Austrian the winner and cut away to figure skating.

I have to stop here and give a shout-out to the men's Norwegian curling team's pants, which have their own facebook page (I can't make this stuff up).  I'm not sure how I missed them 4 years ago, but when I noticed what they were wearing on Friday and told my daughter to google it, we couldn't believe the variety of results.  Apparently the team members each brought 12 different pairs with them (a different one for each potential match).

I'm looking forward to the final week of competition and seeing what will come next. Here's your own chance to visit South Korea:

Today we head to the Czech Republic for a well-favorited puzzle that you could work on with the junior cachers in your life.  I can't swear to it, but I expect that the title translates to "Find the Differences":

Happy Valentine's Day - 2/14/18

I always enjoy scouting out themed holiday puzzles, since it can be quite entertaining to see what people have put out there.  For example, this one from Canada's Alberta province suggests going caching together as:

Winter Fun and Games - 2/13/18

If you've been following this blog for long, you'll know that I'm not a huge fan of winter.  We haven't had any really huge storms this year here in central NY, but it seems the small ones just keep coming and coming.  I've already had one "snow day" from work and hope we don't lose any more days or it's going to get hard to shoe-horn in everything we need to cover.  Today I'm featuring one of my own puzzles, which I put out about 4 years ago around this time:

MMmmonday! - 2/12/18

While they're not inexhaustible, the CO of today's Oregon puzzle certainly has a lot of them, and of a wide variety.  I noticed a pattern of featuring them on Mondays or Tuesdays lately, so I figured I'd keep the trend going with:

Camel Maths - 2/10/18

Today's puzzle has us paying a visit to the United Arab Emirates.  I didn't remember if I'd featured any puzzles there before, but it turns out there have been three of them over the years.  I chose this one in honor of my daughter, who is into her last semester of college majoring in Chemistry and Math, and has always had a particular fondness for camels (the quilt I made for her dorm room wall is below).  How perfect, then, is a puzzle called:

Victoria's Acrostics - 2/8/18

Not long ago I wrapped up binge-watching season 2 of "The Crown," and decided to follow it up with Masterpiece Theater's "Victoria." (OK, I know they dropped the "Theater" a while back, that's just how I always remember it.)  I didn't know very much about the queen, and have been reading up on her a bit as I watch the show.  With today's puzzle from Northwest England, you get the chance to solve a puzzle that's attributed to the queen herself:

Groundhog Day ... again? - 2/7/18

I spotted a Groundhog Day puzzle that popped up in England last week, which wasn't too surprising.  But then I saw another one.  And another one.  And another one. Are you sensing a theme here?  I had to investigate, and ended up deciding to share this one with you today.  But if you're interested, you can find a bunch more recent ones by the same CO, all entitled:

A Round of Applause - 2/6/18

Today's cache takes us to Minnesota, site of a rather exciting Super Bowl game the other day.  I can't say I was exactly happy to see the Eagles win, but I expect there are a lot of folks like me who upon seeing the Patriots lose wanted to:

Soon, no swims - 2/3/18

Tonight we'll be celebrating the final home swim meet of our daughter's college swimming career. I know she's going to miss the camaraderie of the team, but probably won't miss the early morning workouts.  She'll probably be glad to say:

Groundhog Day - 2/2/18

It's Groundhog Day again, and today's puzzle takes us to California.  I'm hoping the little furry guy predicts an early spring, but I won't hold my breath.  At least our days are finally getting noticeably longer.  I was coming home from work at 5:30 the other day, and could still:

Dammit, (again) Jim! - 2/1/18

Today's puzzle takes us to Washington state.  Way back in  in a blog post  in 2012, I mentioned this t-shirt.
It has long been a mainstay of my husband's wardrobe, so much so that for Christmas this year he received a 3rd iteration (#2 being rather faded and about ready for the rag bag).  In honor of the man on the receiving end of these oft-quoted zingers:

Tomorrow we'll be in California.
