The CO of today's California puzzle claims:

"It's actually a D=1 but it must be a D=5 and I won't tell you why..."  See what you think:

What Drives You? - 7/28/15

I've said before that I think one of the things that makes caching such an interesting hobby is that there are so many different ways to play the game, and thus, so many different kinds of people who are drawn to it.  We all have our reasons why we do the things we do ... our own likes and dislikes, different goals and aspirations.  My own particular fascination is with puzzles ... I guess you could say I am driven to seek them out and discover their secrets.  Today's California puzzle asks:

What drives you?

Now, that's hard ... - 7/25/15

Challenge caches and their eventual fate have been a hot topic over the last few months.  I have done a few challenge caches and enjoyed them, but realized early on that there were a lot of them I was never going to be able to fulfill because they would just be too hard for me to do ... but that's OK.  We all cache differently, and that's one of the things I like about the game.   Today, from Georgia, I bring you:

The "Hardest Challenge Cache of all time!"

The REAL Geochecker - 7/24/15

I'm betting some of you remember one of the incarnations of the old game show To Tell the Truth (I hear ABC has a new version in the works as well), so you'll understand the title of today's Michigan puzzle:

Will the real GeoCHECKER please stand up?

Elite Passports - 7/23/15

For anyone who travels internationally, a passport is a very important document. I remember the first time I went overseas I was constantly checking to be sure I hadn't lost mine, as in those days getting a replacement was no easy task (it's probably still not a picnic, but I expect it's probably easier than it was then).  I'm pretty sure I've already told you my story about finding (and subsequently returning) the remains a Swedish passport during a CITO.  Its owner was very pleased to have it back. I know that folks with dual citizenship can have more than one passport ... that's pretty special.  Today's North Carolina puzzle is:

Bastille Day, Redux - 7/14/15

I had egg on my face a few weeks ago when I featured a puzzle in honor of Bastille day a whole month prematurely.  Oops.  Today I'm rectifying the error with today's California puzzle:

The French Connection

and I also wanted to mention this one, which actually is in France:

Mystery Game #4 : Geocaching Connection  in which users either create or are recruited into a network in order to get the coords as a group.  I haven't played it through yet, but it sounds like fun.  I successfully started my own network and can "recruit" three other cachers ... and then they will be able to recruit more members if they like. If you're interested in being recruited, let me know.

Grid Lock - 7/12/15

Today we travel to Rhode Island for a puzzle.  Living in a small city I don't have to worry too much about traffic snarling up unless there's a construction project or it's time for new students to be moving in at Cornell.  While on my geocaching vacation in California there were a couple of times I experienced total:

Dirty Water Dog - 7/9/15

When I saw the title of today's Rhode Island cache I knew I'd have to feature it here.  Fortunately I really like its implementation, especially the video hint. My apologies in advance to anyone who has any technical difficulties. For most of my life I've had a dog, but only the most recent one, geodog "K," is what I'd call a real "dog" dog.  He loves being outside, rolling in disgusting stuff, and he LOVES water ... creek, pond, puddle, plastic kiddy pool - it doesn't matter.  I think part of it is that since he's jet black, he often gets hot outside.  But I also just think he likes to play in the water.  His favorite thing to do is sit in it and then swoop his head down under and back out.  If the amount of water isn't enough to sit in, plunging his head in works just fine.  I saw him put his head in a puddle once and come up coated with so much mud he couldn't even see through it.  Recently with all the rain we've had around here, my neighbor's fenced yard (where he often plays) has a couple of pretty wet muddy spots and I've gotten more than my share of experience with a:

Dirty Water Dog

P.S.  I'll be on the GeoGearHeads again this evening, this time with fellow puzzler and author Cully Long for another session of Puzzle Caching Q&A.

Tomorrow we'll be in California.

Lost Cities - 7/1/15

I've heard from more than one cacher that New Jersey's Lost Cities series is an extremely well done series of caches in what I would call extreme terrain conditions.  It sounds like a lot of group expeditions have had a great time doing them. I'll probably never be in a position to brave the conditions myself, but just in case, I started with the:
