10 Years! - 6/30/20

Today marks 10 years since I started caching.  If you'd told me then all the places it would take me and the great people I would meet, I never would have believed it.  I still think the best thing about it is that it's a hobby we create for each other.  I've gotten so much enjoyment from other puzzlers that I'm really pleased to be able to share their efforts here.  This particular puzzle (first featured way back in 2011 for my first caching anniversary), besides being in theme was one of the local ones that sent me on a search for more puzzles outside of the immediate area that I could work on in the hopes of gaining enough practice to figure out what was going on.  The "puzzle-solving safari" that I referred to in my log for this cache is what ended up leading me to start this blog (which will have its own 10th anniversary in January):

Who was that masked man? - 6/26/20

I can't believe it's almost starting to feel normal having to wear a mask when I go to the grocery store.  It's perfectly commonplace to see people walking around with all manner of face coverings including scarves and bandanas that bring a wild west bank robber to mind.  The background image of today's brand new California puzzle features one such:

A Virtual Visit - 6/25/20

I had fun yesterday dropping on a virtual gathering of geocachers in California.  I'd met or corresponded with several of them before, and it's always fun meeting new people and matching faces to names.  I love meeting other cachers, especially puzzlers, and it's great to be able to do it without even leaving home.  Today's puzzle is also from California, so you can say you've also paid them a visit and dabbled with a little:

Sad to See It Go - 6/24/20

I had to archive this cache last week, but I thought you might indulge me for sharing it with you here today to give it one last chance to be seen.  It was one of my earliest efforts in puzzle-making, and I hated to see it go:

Breaking and Entering - 6/23/20

I spent the weekend working on another online puzzle hunt with friends (remotely).  It was a lot of fun and if you've ever wanted to try that sort of thing it's open for almost another week for anyone who'd like to get together a little team to participate: Puzzle Potluck 3

A Dad Joke and a Dad Riddle - 6/21/20

It's Father's Day and I hope all the dads out there will have a great day.  Here's a recent Texas puzzle from a series that's grown to at least 30 caches now:

If you prefer something a little meatier, here's a puzzle I shared back in 2015 which features a riddle that was one of my Dad's favorites:

Herky - 6/20/20

I love geo-art with all different kinds of puzzles.  Today's Iowa puzzle is from one like that, a "Hawkeye" geoart that was recommended to me recently.  It originally had125 puzzles ranging in difficulty from 1.5 to 5.0 and I had fun looking through a bunch of them.  There are definitely some I want to go back and spend some more time with.  For today, I'll leave you with this one:

Wondrous - 6/19/20

I thought I might share with you another cache from my first geocaching adventure to California back in 2015, but it's really hard to choose among all of them. So instead I thought I might reshare one that I actually placed during that trip.  It was great to be able to repay those great puzzlers with a little puzzle of my own:

Word Association - 6/18/20

It was five years ago this week that I took my first big solo caching adventure out to the San Francisco Bay area.  I had a huge stack of solved puzzles to work on finding, but also was able to meet up with many of the CO's I'd gotten to know via e-mail over the previous few years.  The other night I was looking back over my photos and rereading a bunch of the logs for the caches I was able to do.  What a great trip that was!  Since it doesn't look like I'll be traveling this summer, I'll have to content myself with reliving some previous adventures.  Today's fun puzzle was first featured back in 2013, and is one that I made the find on five years ago today:

Bigger on the Inside- 6/11/20

Today's puzzle takes us to Australia. Since we're figuring on spending most of the summer at home, we've been working on a little outdoor living space in the form of screened in gazebo.  It kind of reminds me of being in a tent but it feels much:

Digital Carrots - 6/7/20

Today we travel up north to Canada for a puzzle in a series I had fun doing with friends several years ago. We'll be celebrating my husband's birthday today, and that always means one thing:  I'm baking a carrot cake.  Fortunately I won't have to use any:

Today's puzzle takes us to Australia ... and a few other places.  I haven't gone through all of this one yet (I admit the virtual reality stuff makes me a little seasick), but it's definitely been on my to-do list. People seem to be enjoying it, so I figured I'd take a chance and share it with you today.  Have some fun spending:

Ted-E-Bear - 6/4/20

Today's puzzle takes us to Pennsylvania.  We live in an area with good-sized yards and a lot of trees, so it's not surprising to see a number of different critters in the neighborhood.  Over the years I've seen tons of squirrels, chipmunks, woodchucks, rabbits, deer, the occasional skunk, opossum, or fox, and once I even saw a coyote.  Yesterday I saw a picture on facebook of a house one street over from us with a bear walking around in front of it. Yikes! While I knew there had been some way on the other side of town, this was a first for us.  I'm not anxious to see one in person, honestly.  Even though it was a little one, it wasn't exactly a:

Early Days - 6/3/20

Thirty Years - 6/2/20

Today's puzzle takes us to Virginia.  Do you know what you were doing 30 years ago today?  I sure do. After about a year's worth of long-distance planning and only three weeks after my college graduation I married the guy who had lived across the hall and worked with me at Oak Ridge National Laboratory as part of the same summer internship program two years before.  We'd never even lived in the same town except for that one summer when we met, but somehow it all worked out and here we are 30 years later.  Where does the time go?? I hope you'll celebrate with me with this:
