Comments and Questions - 1/31/21

Like the CO of today's Arkansas cache, I enjoy receiving comments and questions about my puzzles because they at least confirm that someone is looking at my work.  I can usually nudge folks along without spoiling the "aha" moment, even if they start out lamenting:

Micro Logic - 1/25/21

Today we're paying a visit to Canada's Ontario province.  I recently had a suggestion to check out the logic puzzles by the CO's of today's featured puzzle. I'm looking forward to trying more of them, after finding this one to be an interesting little nut to crack:

Kudos - 1/22/21

Today's puzzle from Canada's province of Newfoundland and Labrador isn't technically a rerun, although I did feature the puzzle it references way back in 2014.  I think this idea of paying "Kudos" to other puzzle makers is a fun one.  Here we have:

Not your typical geo-art - 1/21/21

Today we travel to Canada's Nova Scotia province for the start of a geo-art that I'm interested in exploring further.  I think it would be a fun rainy day project to see how far I can get.  Here's where it all kicks off:

Inauguration Day - 1/20/21

All eyes will be on Washington, D.C., today and I'm really hoping things go peacefully.  I remember attending inaugural festivities with my parents many years ago and it's just unbelievable how things have changed, in so many ways.  Today's Texas puzzle is one I featured back in 2015, and I thought it might be nice in-theme one for today:

Scoreboard - 1/19/21

Today's puzzle takes us to California. I spent Monday recovering from 2.5 fun days (and a very late night) working with a large group of folks doing the MIT puzzlehunt (held virtually this year due to the pandemic).  This was my third one, and I find it an exhausting, overwhelming, and humbling experience.  I always learn something and come away really impressed with the puzzling community and its creativity in coming up with new ways to challenge and entertain each other.  In this annual event the winners are tasked with the job of writing the next hunt, and last year's winners really outdid themselves in putting this one together.  Our team wasn't in the top 3, but we did complete the whole hunt and were just a few places back on the:

Around the World - 1/17/21

Today we pay a visit to a Florida series that's been coming out gradually over the years.  It can be kind of addictive once you get going.  For today I picked this one:

Rack My Brain - 1/16/21

Ttoday's puzzle takes us to New Jersey.  This weekend is the annual MIT puzzlehunt, which is all virtual this year.  I am so glad I made the trip to Boston last year to try out the hunt in person.  It was exhausting but a great opportunity to really:

Dodger Blue - 1/11/21

Today's puzzle that was passed along to me recently takes us to North Carolina.  I was saddened this weekend to hear of the passing of Dodger great Tommy Lasorda.  Looking back at his career, I found that he his first full season with the team was the year that I became a Dodger fan.  Even though it was a very abnormal year, I'm so happy he was able to see them win the world series last fall (their first since he had led them to one back in 1988).  My impression is that he was a purist ... not even a big fan of the designated hitter rule. I wonder what he would have thought of adding a:

Oh give me a home .. 1/9/21

Today's puzzle keeps us in my own state of New York. With 6 playoff games this weekend and our team done for the year I'm left deciding who to root for (who to root against is easy). I expect a good choice is out to the west:

Air Cannon - 1/8/21

Today's puzzle is one that was passed along to me a while back and I had fun going through it.  Some of them I knew instantly, and others took a little more research.  One made me LOL.  The puzzle is in Wisconsin, but it will have you doing a bit of traveling.  Ready?:

Epiphany - 1/6/21

I received a message from a cacher the other day who is working on one of my recent puzzles and mentioned that she was still waiting for an epiphany.  I wrote back and told her she was fortunate that Epiphany was just a couple of days away.  😉  Now that today is the day, I wish you epiphanies on all the puzzles you work on, including this one I found in New Zealand that tells the story of:

Three Wise Men

For anyone who is interested, today I finished up my project of going back and getting the geocaching.com bookmark for puzzles featured in 2020 completed. I've also updated all of the location based bookmarks that can be linked to from the main blog page.  It's kind of fun looking back through all the places we've visited (virtually) back through the years.

Mmmm ... fudge - 1/3/21

I don't do a huge amount of holiday baking (despite watching a lot of it on TV), but I always make fudge. I definitely made a lot less this year than in years past.  When my kids were younger I made batch after batch and bagged it up to give as gifts to teachers, coaches, bus drivers, scout leaders, etc.  I like to make it in the microwave, and it requires the biggest bowl I have to make one batch, so I've never been able to try to save time by making:
