Candy Corn - 10/29/19

When it comes to Halloween candy I am firmly biased towards all forms of chocolate, so candy corn is not something I have ever been drawn to.  I don't think I gave much thought as to where the name came from, until recently seeing a posting similar to this one:
Image result for why they call it candy corn

I couldn't believe I'd never noticed that before.  Even if you don't like it either, I hope you'll enjoy this Minnesota puzzle that I first featured several years ago:

Math is Friendly - 10/28/19

Today's cache takes us back to Maryland.  I work with people almost on a daily basis who tell me that they hate math.  It's so hard for me to understand because:

It's Still about Balance - 10/27/19

Today's California puzzle is one I first shared back in 2012, when I mentioned how much I enjoyed the original Karate Kid movie.  Lately I have been having a blast cathcing up with the YouTube series "Cobra Kai" which picks up the action with much of the original cast 30-some years later.  I find it surprisingly well-written with a lot of humorous moments (including some that poke a little fun at the 1980's).  And it's still all about:

Going Batty - 10/25/19

I'm a little late getting this posted since I was deep into finishing up our online puzzle hunt.  I just had a feeling we were going to be able to finish tonight and I didn't want the west coast members of the team to have all the fun crossing the finish line without me.  We managed to get all 103 puzzles solved (since Saturday) in a great group effort.  But my brain is officially now fried.  I pulled up this memorable puzzle for you (I first shared it back in 2014) since it's nicely in theme with the season and  I'm feeling a bit batty myself:

Befuddled Fish - 10/23/19

I was working in the tutoring center yesterday and ended up spending quite a bit of time with a student working on a Physics problem about a fish hanging on a spring scale in an elevator.  I hadn't done this kind of thing in probably 25 years, but I had the right idea from the start.  I ended up reversing the signs on my first try and it took me a while to sort out what I was doing wrong.  But it's so typical ... if there's a way to do something backwards, I will definitely find it.  But the main question I had, honestly, was why someone was sending this fish up and down in an elevator??  Today's Colorado  puzzle which I featured back in 2013 just seemed appropriate for the occasion:

Too Bizarro - 10/22/19

We had another simply gorgeous day here today.  Just looking at the glow of the leaves in the afternoon sun literally put a lump in my throat.  I hope there will still be a few left after our next round of bad weather.  Today I have for you a memorable puzzle from Australia that I featured way back in 2014.  It was actually inspired by a NY puzzle that the CO saw here on this blog.  I love it when that happens.  Obviously we can't do the field puzzle from afar, but you can enjoy the first part of:

More Pictures - 10/21/19

I've been puzzling like mad all weekend in an online hunt called "Puzzle Boat 6."  Our group has done about 40 puzzles and there's probably that many more left to go.  But I worked on one more so I'd have something to share with you today, and had a sweet "aha" moment with today's California puzzle featuring:

Opus 244 - 10/16/19

We had another beautiful Fall day here in the Finger Lakes.  It really reminds me why this is my favorite season here (as long as I can forget about what's around the corner).  Not enough leaves have fallen to require raking yet, and the colors are just breathtaking in bright sunlight.  I'm in full Fall mode ... fixed my yearly apple crisp over the weekend,  made no-bake pumpkin cheesecake bars the other night, and bought a delicious New York "Apple Pie Moonshine" with which I spiked some hot cider tonight at a potluck.  Yum.  I was even inspired to go out after work and do maintenance for 5 caches (2 fresh logs, 1 complete replacement, 1 found missing and archived, and 1 found in place despite being DNF'd recently).  It was good to get out and get those all taken care of.

Today's puzzle is from a California cacher who has been featured here many times before.  It's his 244th puzzle cache, but it's called:

A Really Easy Puzzle for Columbus Day - 10/14/19

It's Columbus Day again, and I just learned yesterday that I'll have a chance to travel to Columbus, Ohio again next March (yeah!), so I figured I'd feature a memorable puzzle from that part of the world today. This one was first shared here back in 2012.  Since it's a holiday I figured it was a good day to feature:

Ten/Ten/Ten - 10/10/19

Looks like I did it again.  I had started a draft for today's post, and thought I had finished it but I guess I hadn't.  This memorable puzzle is one that I had great fun solving during a 10/10/10 event.  That was the first event I ever attended, and it marked my 100th cache find.  See if you can find the:

UpHill Battle - 10/9/19

Note:  I posted the date incorrectly on this puzzle, so it was meant to come up yesterday.  Today's puzzle finds us in Oregon.  As I'm posting this it's just past midnight on the east coast, and our beloved Minnesota Twins are down 2 runs, and heading in to the 9th inning of what will probably be their last game of the season.  They had a great year, but it seems like whenever they meet those guys in the pinstripes in the playoffs it's an:

Can Machines Think? - 10/4/19

Today's puzzle takes us to North Carolina.  I've been amazed at how well my phone is able to suggest replies to my incoming e-mails.  It's obviously able to read the messages and offer a suitable short reply, like "Great!" or "Thanks!" or some such that I can click on and reply automatically.  When I compose messages, it's constantly looking ahead and offering suggestions for words it thinks I want to type.  But it makes me laugh when I sign my e-mails with my full name.  When I type out Jennifer it offers two suggestions for continuing other than my own last name:  "Lawrence" and "Lopez."  It does make you wonder, though:
