A trip to the library - 7/31/20

The highlight of my week so far was driving to the library to turn in (at curbside) books I'd checked out in March and which had finally come due.  Thank goodness during this time with our libraries being closed that their e-books have still been available to be checked out!  Another highlight of my days is receiving puzzle recommendations, and today's Oklahoma puzzle is one that popped in to my inbox this week.  I hope everyone will enjoy their trip to the:

Christmas in July? - 7/25/20

Today's puzzle takes us to Ukraine.  I remember going to a summer birthday party when I was a kid that had a Christmas in July theme.  We all made ornaments that looked like puppy dogs with felt ears. The girl dogs had little bows on their heads and the boys had milk-jug lid hats.  I totally lost track of that friend after high school, but I still hang those things on my tree every year and think of her.  So, I figured why not have Christmas in July here:

Long Number Revisited - 7/24/20

I shared this California puzzle back in 2014, but it was actually 1 year ago today that I made the find, so I thought it might be fun to pay it another visit.  It's a really:

Bookmarks Updated - 7/20/20

Today's puzzle takes us to California.  I had gotten woefully behind on bookmarking all of the puzzles featured here over the last 18 months, so I decided to take the bull by the horns and just work through and do them all.  It took me several sessions, but I am pleased to report that I'm all caught up!  If you happen to come across one that I overlooked, please do let me know and I'll fix it straight away.  I also updated all of the location-based bookmarks so that they cover the period from 2011 through the end of 2019.  I can't rest on my laurels, though.  In order to stay caught up I'll need to:

Emoji Movies - 7/19/20

One of the most memorable puzzles from the MIT mystery hunt last January involved figuring out movies solely based on emojis.  I even got the t-shirt which features that puzzle (I'm sure a little creative googling will find you the answer, if you're curious how it worked):

Today's Rhode Island puzzle is a simpler version, but the idea is the same:

This Day in Baseball History - 7/17/20

Today's puzzle takes us to Minnesota.  Our household has really missed watching televised sports this season, and we are especially looking forward to the return of baseball and being able to root for our beloved Twins.  Here's hoping that everything with the planned restart goes well.  In the meantime we've had the opportunity to relive some moments in past baseball history, including this one:

50,000 Reasons to Celebrate - 7/13/20

I hope you'll join me in wishing my good friend CaptainMath congratulations on recently reaching 50,000 finds.  I put together a puzzle in honor of  what was then the upcoming occasion, and conspired with a Pennsylvania cacher in his area to place the associated cache for him to find:

ꓵbƧIDE ⮍ DOMИ - 7/11/20

I love the photos in today's puzzle from Kansas.  They remind me of the only canoe trip my husband and I ever took way back in the early 90's.  We took our little dog and he sat on top of the cooler in the middle of the canoe looking like Cleopatra going down the Nile.  We weren't very adept paddlers and at least once we did tip over ... but since all of our stuff was packaged such that it would float, our friends were able to chase it down while we recovered from turning:

Hairballz - 7/3/20

In my math classes I often each dimensional analysis, which is one method of doing the calculations required for today's Canadian puzzle.  I know that my students would be absolutely horrified to hear that I actually do that kind of thing for fun.  The picture accompanying the puzzle almost made my allergies click in just looking at it.  That's a lot of:

Today's puzzle takes us to California.  Everyone around my house knows that the first of the month is "kablooey day," in honor of the monthly puzzles that the CO has been publishing, without fail, going back to January of 2008.  That's a lot of puzzles! I hope you'll enjoy the most recent entry, from just yesterday:
