Last weekend saw the running of the Daytona 500, the first race of the Nascar season and the annual competition for the
Winston,
Nextel,
Sprint, Monster Energy Cup. I don't really follow the sport, but since I grew up at the sight of a popular track in Bristol, TN, I have had a lot of exposure to it. It's interesting how much variation there is from track to track, and race to race. The major race there every spring is called the "Food City 500." The track in Bristol is only a little over a half a mile around. To complete 500 miles there you'd have to go around something like 938 times, so the "500" means "500 laps." How many laps do you think there are in the Daytona 500? Today's Florida puzzle asks the same question:
Daytona Beach, FL: Sunshine State Geoart #18
Tomorrow we'll be in California.
